## Key facts

- **Entry route:** eTA · Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)
- **How to apply:** Electronic travel authorization (online)
- **Entries:** Multiple entry
- **Government fee:** CA$7
- **Proof of funds:** enough money for your stay

## How to apply

1. **Confirm the travel route** — A Bahamian citizen needs an eTA and valid passport to fly to Canada. By car, bus, train or boat, including a cruise ship, no eTA is required, but a valid passport is required. If travelling by sea from Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, excluding cruise ships, an eTA is required to board the boat.
2. **Prepare application information** — Have the passport, credit or debit card ready and read the help document.
3. **Complete the online form** — Use the online form; it cannot be saved, so have the information ready.
4. **Pay the government fee** — Pay $7 CAD immediately after completing the form; the fee is non-refundable.
5. **Monitor the application** — Most applications are approved within minutes. If supporting documents are requested, instructions are sent within 72 hours.
6. **Check passport details** — The eTA is linked to the passport used to apply. If the passport number in the approval email does not match, apply for a new eTA.
7. **Check in for the flight** — Present the passport used to apply; airline staff scan it to confirm the eTA, and without one the traveller cannot board.
8. **Arrive and seek admission** — At arrival, Canada checks identity and entry requirements. A border services officer decides how long the traveller may stay.

## Documents checklist

- **Passport used for the eTA application** (Identity): The eTA is electronically linked to this passport and it must be presented at flight check-in.
- **Email address** (Supporting): Required for the online application.
- **Credit or debit card** (Financial): Required to pay the CAD $7 government fee.
- **Supporting documents requested by IRCC** (Supporting, optional): Conditional: some requests require supporting documents before approval.
- **Proof of sufficient funds** (Financial, optional): Conditional visitor-entry evidence; the amount varies with stay length and accommodation.
- **Evidence of ties and intended departure** (Supporting, optional): Conditional evidence such as a job, home, financial assets or family.
- **Letter of invitation** (Supporting, optional): Conditional when invited; an officer may ask to see it.
